Without reaching the heights of last week Kettering produced a professional performance that was too good for Cambridge Vets. Kettering had the opportunity to go ahead within the first thirty seconds but Andy Sellers shot wide. Kettering were comfortable in possession and created numerous openings but broke the deadlock when Grant Carlin hammered home a reverse stick shot. This allowed Kettering to relax and play their passing brand of hockey but they were fortunate when an over eager umpires whistle went before City put the ball in. Short corner awarded and dealt with. Kettering then came up with the best move of the match when a free flowing move saw the increasingly influential Dom Cusk find an unmarked Andy Sellers to make it two. The second half saw City adopt a more “ they shall not pass “ philosophy which meant the game became rather disjointed. Carlin was on the end of one particularly unsubtle challenge and this frustration resulted in Ross Mathieson, Jack Bridges and Paul Donnelly all taking enforced rests in the second half. A string of short corners eventually saw Sellers double his tally and put the game beyond doubt. Not a pretty game but three more points to keep Kettering third in the table and starting to pull clear of mid table. The second consecutive clean sheet was encouraging and Kettering look forward to facing Peterborough 4ths next week in a 230 start at Bishop Stopford.
