Kettering 4-2 CoP4
Kettering take win for Granted.
In the end Kettering proved too strong for a resilient City of Peterborough 4th string who have established themselves as a solid mid table outfit. With only a bare eleven Kettering knew they would be in for a challenging afternoon but after rushing into a two goal lead within the first ten minutes all looked set for a comfortable victory. Grant Carlin
opened the scoring in the second minute with a well worked short corner having earlier spurned a decent chance. Carlin doubled the lead with a far post finish. Kettering continued to push for a third goal but were punished when a short corner scramble resulted in a penalty stroke after the ball struck Ross Mathieson
on the line. Keeper Barry Coe
was unable to stop the penalty. Things became worse when Mathieson was caught in possession and the CoP forward made no mistake. Lewis Pywell
has a great chance to put the hosts in front again before the half but his shot hit the keeper.
Regrouping at half time Kettering went out to win the game for a second time and the next thirty five minutes saw Kettering dominate territory and possession giving Peterborough very few looks ar goal. The longer the half went on the more it looked like Kettering would drop a couple of points but Carlin was on hand to complete his hat trick and Pywell buried a short corner to give the final score a more reasonable look.
With a couple of games postponed due to the weather Kettering sit second in a very congested 3NW and next week face Bourne Deeping away in an 11oclock start. They will welcome back Andy Sellers, Ed Jennings and Richard Lashbrooke and travel with a full squad.
