Kettering come up short in table topping game

Sometimes you just have to accept that on the day the best team won. Kettering can have no complaints after travelling to Cambridge to take on City 4s in a table topping clash. The game started brightly and after putting City under pressure with a series of short corners their third saw Andy Sellers sweep home to give the visitors the lead. This lead to Cambridge producing a spell of hockey that had movement, pace and fluidity and was too hot for Kettering to handle. Three goals saw city open up a commanding lead and they played a style of hockey that Kettering must aspire to. The second half saw a strange passage of play when Kettering keeper Barry Coe saved a penalty stroke and within thirty seconds Kettering had roared up the other end and were awarded their own penalty. Sellers saw his stroke also saved. What could have been 3-2 became 4-1 as City hit back immediately. Two more goals followed until a Grant Carlin was on hand to fire home a consolation. In the last ten minutes Kettering actually played some really good hockey and created numerous chances but could not get close to their hosts.
Kettering host Peterborough 5ths next week hoping to get their promotion hopes back on track.
