CoP 4 shock leaders.

Kettering’s title ambition took a severe blow as they fell to a shock 2-1 reverse to a highly motivated Peterborough team who rode their luck a little combined with some experienced defending to take a surprising three points. In fairness, the second half could have lasted a week and Kettering wouldn’t have got an equaliser. They laid siege to the Peterborough goal but could not force a way through.
It all started so well, despite Pat Cawley’s early green card, Andy Sellers put Kettering into an early lead and it looked like the free scoring visitors would take the three points. CoP 4 equalised with a breakaway goal and far post finish and took the lead when a short corner mix up saw Mark Hawkins deflect the ball above a stranded keeper.
Chances and short corners were plentiful in the second half but no amount off hammering away could force the ball over the line.

There is now a log jam at the top of 3NW with 5 teams separated by 3 points - it is the tightest league in the East and there is all to play for. On Sunday (11th) Bourne host Cambridge City in a huge game that will throw some light on the picture.

Kettering have three games left, all at home, but play Bourne and March.

This saga could run and run but next week’s home tie against Bourne could be a winner takes all game.
