Pelicans 5-1 Kettering

Kettering’s away woes continued as they were taught a lesson in counter attacking by an experienced Pelicans outfit.
From the start Pelicans allowed Kettering plenty of possession but in areas that were unable to hurt the hosts and a swift counter attack following a turn over of possession saw a Pelican forward neatly deflect the ball home. The hosts soon doubled the advantage when a poorly executed Kettering short corner saw a lightning counter and cool finish. Pat Cawley drew a good save from the home keeper but chances for Kettering were few and far between.
The second half followed a similar pattern. The hosts happy to concede possession and territory and again a cheap turnover saw a quick counter attack goal. Kettering are learning that at this level mistakes are more likely to be punished. Dom Cusk narrowed the gap when he lifted the ball over the keeper with 13 mins to go but a penalty stroke conceded by Ross Mathieson and a last minute goal game the score line an unbalanced look.
Kettering return to home pastures next week with the St Ives the visitors.
