CoP guilty of daylight robbery!

The modern game is such that generally the team that do most of the attacking tend to win. Sadly that was not the case at Bishop Stopford on Saturday as Peterborough 3rds stole away with the three points courtesy of three break aways. Kettering came out of the traps firing and put Peterborough under immense pressure but the experienced Peterborough rearguard were more than a match for this. Kettering forced a number of short corners but the routine wasn’t firing. On the counter Peterborough took the lead with their first meaningful foray into home territory. They doubled their lead with a mirror image goal to go into the break somehow two goals to the good.
The second half followed a similar pattern. Kettering camped in the visitors half but unable to break through. Paul Donnelly fired over when it looked like he would score and Andy Sellers hit the bar. Another sucker punch saw Peterborough draw three clear. Kettering rallied again led by the irrepressible Pat Cawley and skipper Grant Carlin reduced the arrears with five minutes to go when he dispatched Kettering’s thirteenth short corner. Two minutes later Ant Paton expertly fired home to set up a grandstand finale. Unfortunately the clock beat Kettering as they wondered how they didn’t take anything out of the game. Disappointed Kettering had to contend themselves with how much progress they have made this year as they realistically start planning for next season and a tilt at the Div 2 title.
