Kettering 1-1 Cambridge Nomads

Kettering visited table topping Cambridge Nomads and produced on of their better performance of the season as the left disappointed to only get a point from a 1-1 draw.
The very experienced Nomads outfit started strongly and controlled the midfield and created a few chances but the visitors defence marshalled by Ross Mathieson held firm. They were breached after 8 minutes though when a well constructed move gave an unmarked forward an easy task. This rallied Kettering and they started to get a foothold in the game and forced a few scrambles in the opposition D. 1-0 at the half and although the hosts had probably had the better of the game Kettering were reasonably comfortable.
The second half saw a resurgent Kettering take the game to Nomads from the outset. Playing on the front foot and stretching the game Nomads were hanging on and it was no surprise that after a period of pressure Dom Cusk deflected the ball home. This was to be the pattern for the second half with sporadic Nomad attacks comfortably repelled and Nomads trying to hold firm. Skipper Grant Carlin was unable to convert a couple of good chances and it is a reflection on how far the team have come this season that the league leaders were more pleased to have grabbed a point. Next week sees a home game to already relegated Bourne as Kettering try to keep their three game unbeaten run going.
Special mention must go to Nomads for probably the best tea we have had since joining the East and it made a real change to chat to the opposition after the game. There going up, which is a bit of a shame because a) they are one of the more pleasant teams we play and b) we took four points off them! Best of luck next season chaps, if your reading this.
