Promising start to the season putting 4 goals past the men's firsts

With what started off as a very wet arrival to the pitch the weather cleared to set us up for a thrilling end to end game. Before positions were appointed a swift gathering of the team was announced to discuss tactics with newly appointed team tactician and coach Jess Austin.
The game started with great enthusiasm to put up a serious fight and make the Men's first team work hard for the win and this we did. Passing the ball well between players and transferring the ball across the width of the pitch gave plenty of attacking options.
Defensively the team worked hard and communication between players was spot on to ensure no player was left unmarked.
The men's first opening the scoring at 11 mins into the game but it was not long till Tom Ward put in a great goal from a rebound off the keeper.
Playing 4 quarters instead of two halves allowed plenty of regrouping on both sides to allow a quick team talk to discuss the do's and the dont's of the game so far. We were happy with the score line and our new tactics which were clearly working as the feathers were ruffled on the opposition. The Men's 1's soon scored another goal but a well won short corner played into our hands from some skillful play through the midfield. This gave us the opportunity to level the score and with a visiting guest of drag flicking ability it was opted to use this to keep the scoreline tight. Goal! it was 2-2 going into half time.
By this point the team were feeling the hard work they had put in being the first game of the season some tired legs but strong minds lifted by the fact we were tied at 2 all. The team were growing into their new roles exceptionally well and allowed a competitive end to end game to continue. Tom ward was putting in some outstanding tackles on the Left side of defense. I think he had andy bull in his pocket was his after game quote.
The next goal came from a great passage of play up the right side through geoff and paul to get the paul fired in coming of a stick to go aerial in front of the goal. Don coleman struck it true and hard into the goal. Great strike and the scoreline grew.
The next passage of the game led to many short corners and penalty flicks against us leaving the score line at 7-3 however the team was not set back in spirit and continued to play hard searching for another goal. There were plenty of quick passing plays round the opposition to get the ball to a lone Don coleman who faced a one on one with his son jake. He eliminated the player and slapped the ball bottom right much to the opposition keepers dismay. Throughout the game Goal keeper matthew coe was outstanding, making some top quality saves making his dad in the opposing goal very jealous.
One last goal from the men's first left us at 8-4 with the game ended and some very sore bodies the whole team felt like they could take that as a win to come away having scored 4 goals against the clubs top team. Outstanding play by all on the pitch and looking forward to continuing this positive start to the season next Saturday
