Mid table mediocrity beckons as 2s surge to 7th.

Could we have robin for Christmas instead of turkey?
Firstly not a fan of our feathered friends but being kind I’ve started feeding them, only the little ones mind, not the starlings. Blimey! How much do these tiny things eat. Am I feeding most of the eastern counties avian population? I’m sort of on a pension you know!! . “Chirp chirp, c’mon boys he’s put some more out”. Will I have a 25kg robin bobbing around the garden?
Anyway, late kick offs give you time to ponder these things whilst waiting for the dark to descend, the lights to come one etc

Still, the meet time was too early for our young tyros Ellis and Joe. 315? That’s late. Big leagues now boys. You have to be there for an hour to listen to the team tactics and marvel at Mr Hawkins little whiteboard.

We started the first half quite well but overall it was an ok type performance. We had a nice spell where we pinned Stives in but couldn’t sustain it. We coughed the ball up just outside our 25 and an unmarked left winger fired the visitors ahead.

A slight change in formation with Brookes pushing forward and Dean, resplendent with his new reddish mohican now sweeper we started to dominate. Haydn created a few chances down the right but nothing was really sticking up front. We then got a short corner and Brookesy fired the ball through the first defender and straight through the keepers legs. “Megs!”. Parity achieved. Could we go on to win? We huffed and puffed but never really looked like scoring a second and the host were indebted to veteran keeper Barry to pull off a fine goal line save follow by a bit of a camera save.

A point gained or two lost? Probably about right but we are young(ish) and will get better every week.

Back to Countryfile the game saw a red kite circling the pitch.

Honours even the crowd went home happy. Well, by home I mean the club where we feasted on jacket potatoes, sausages and beans. Proper hockey tea! No buffet here!

The Mens 2s are turning into a real family team. Mums, dads, siblings, other half’s, they all rock up to stab people in the back during the post match voting. Joe might have been mom last week but late, no gumshield, and crocs meant there was no hiding place today.

Next week we’re off to, yes you guessed it, Cambridge. This time to play South in a 3pm start. I like playing there. Always a bit of banter. Will we get to the tea before them? There’s been issues in the past. A Cock stop on the way home? Depends if the egg chasing is on telly.
