On a generally gloomy day Kettering paid their respects to (former Corby) teammate Sean Elliott in the fading light of a wet November evening.
Summing up the mood first half was rather bereft of highlights only a crunching Darren Brookes er, tackle?, which Sean would have been proud of, seeing him have a regulation 5 mins in the bin and a fine save by the Nomad stopper the only things of merit.
A nervy second half with both teams aware that points in the basement are important saw Nomads take the lead when a cross was diverted into a Nomad forward who couldn’t really miss. Kettering equalised almost immediately when skipper Paul Donnelly fired home from a short corner.
Neither side really looked like scoring but with Brookes binned again and Donnelly following him a last hit of the game controversial short corner saw Nomads take the spoils.
Disappointing barely covers it. A very sad week for most of the players capped off with a loss.
On the plus side the withdrawal of Camb City 6 ( how poor) and Bourne not looking great means staying out of the dreaded drop zone should be achievable. That said, as we seem to be the only side in this league with any young players I fully expect us to click into gear after Christmas and finish in mid table mediocrity. Remember where you read it first!
