Firing blanks.

Another day, another blank.

A day that promised ok weather failed to deliver as we started in gloomy conditions and drizzle against a typical age profile South outfit. We are generally a combination of old boys and under 18 so, in theory have the right median age whereas the visitors probably have the right average age ( maybe a little higher than ideal but you get the gist).
We rode our luck, South, sitting pretty near the top of the table, were well drilled and passed the ball about well. We worked very hard to close down space and play on the counter. Despite their possession Kettering had a great chance through Ellis but I believe it was saved. Chances were plentiful at our end but resolute defending and, let’s be honest, woeful finishing including a catastrophically executed 3v1 which veteran goalie Coe smothered and cleared. We went in all even. Much better than last week.
Second half saw more huffing and puffing and eventually, following an almighty scramble South scored what turned out to be the only goal. Ellis was unlucky not to clear it. Was he fouled? We looked for an equaliser but need to keep looking to get a goal. South were decent value for the win but hardly top of the table form and bodes well for Kettering’s games against teams in the lower half of the table.
A week off next week so a chance to watch the 1st team at home to Spalding.
Don’t know who got MoM but “TightMan” Dean must’ve been close, got my vote.
