With safety secured following last week’s midnight nil nil Kettering eventually went goal crazy (relative speaking) before an evening of French themed frolics.
With Bourne already down Kettering were fairly confident and, with a big squad, set about their opponents. Bourne had a couple of chances but Theo Crick was on hand to mop up any danger. A couple of chances came and went before Ethan Roberts unselfishly set up Harry Dell’Utri to open the scoring. Within minutes Kettering had doubled their advantage when Ioan Allen fired home. The games somewhat drifted into half time with only a barely believable miss from Craig Scott to note.
The second half was fairly similar. Kettering’s defence coping well with Bourne lively couple of strikers and Kettering still creating chances. Ellis Grant was his usual effervescent self and landed the man of the match award. Allen saw green for a deliberate back stick and Crick also went for some misdemeanour. There was time for Adam Duell to volley home to put the game beyond Bourne who themselves were reduced to ten men when a cynical push was punished.
A season of not enough goals has meant Kettering flirted with the dreaded drop but strong defensive performances saw them very hard to beat and able to grind out enough points to be safe in the end. We played better against the better teams.
An evening of Camembert and beer with some top French outfits to end the season and now a summer to regroup before we start again.
