Kettering 2s travelled to Nottingham a player short due to an injury prior to the match day. This meant that getting a good result was always going to be long haul against the team that just came down from the higher league. As expected the lions share of possession was enjoyed by Nottingham Players throughout the whole match. Despite the almost constant pressure Kettering held firm throughout the first half, with goalkeeper Gareth Tasker particularly effective in the goal. The one and only chance that came to Kettering was when young Dominik Cusk dribbled around a couple of players inside the Nottingham 23 and up to the edge of the D. He shot unfortunately went well wide after a deflection. Kettering were much relieved when the halftime whistle went and it was still 0-0.
The second half continued with the relentless pressure mounting on the stalwart Kettering defence of Nick Cusk, Graham Smart, Jake Coleman and Geoff Elliot. Despite many short corners it looked like the flagging 10 men would be able to hold out. Then with only a minute to go one rather messed up short corner somehow found it way to the goal line and bobbled its way over the line. Thus Kettering went home boyed by a sterling and immense effort but saddened by the eventual lose - 1-0 to Nottingham Players.
