Kettering Record First Mens Team Victory

The youngest player on the pitch stunned the Wellingborough defence with three goals in the first half to put Kettering in command. The victory was rounded off by a relative newcomer to the fold.
Kettering Mens 2s started their third league fixture with no goals having been scored so far in their first two fixtures. The game was flowing from end to end with both teams initially soaking up the pressure. Then Andy Bull picked the ball up out wide on the right of the 23 and worked his way up to the line and then across into the 'D'. As the Wellingborough defence closed in he fired the ball across the goal to the waiting youngster; Dominik Cusk; who guided it neatly into the open goal. A few minutes later Dominik was once more in the same place to redirect a wide shot by Andy Bull into the net for a 2-0 lead.
Kettering were overjoyed and pushed forward for more, leaving themselves a little exposed for a counter attack which resulted in a short-corner for Wellingborough. Although the initial drag-flick was well saved by Gareth Tasker in the Kettering goal, the rest of the defence were slow to pick up the rebound and Wellingborough were able to slot the ball home.
However Wellingboroughs own joy was short lived as once again Dominik Cusk popped up in the 'D' to put away a third close range effort to restore the two goal cushion. Kettering continued to press creating a number of chances but once again got caught on the break after a goal mouth scramble. The ball rebounded kindly for the Wellingborough defence who managed to clear it to their own midfield. A quick break forward broke through the Kettering defence and a square pass across the goalie found three Wellingborough players on hand to steer the ball into the empty net.
Thus the half time talk was dominated by how well Kettering were playing but also about not overcommitting. This seamed to calm down the halftime jitters and the second half saw Kettering pressuring the Wellingborough goal and preventing much in the way of counterattacks. The fourth goal however took a long time in coming as Wellingborough had learnt their lesson from the first half and marked young Dominik preventing him from being available and the other attackers were more profligate in front of goal. Eventually however returning Kettering player Sam Deprisco was able to stroke home a couple of further goals allowing Kettering to see out the game in relative comfort. Sam himself might have had a hat-trick along with Dominik if he had converted the gilt-edged chance that was presented to him in the dying minutes.
A good first win for Kettering 2s 5-2.
