Kettering made the two hour journey to distant Buxton with high hopes as on paper they had a strong team. However this did not translate to a cohesive display on the pitch. Instead the play was often slow and inaccurate, the tackles ineffective and the commitment poor. Maybe the long journey had left the team flat.
Buxton took full advantage to score a couple of goals in each half. They could have had more if not for some good goalkeeping by the young debutant Matthew Coe, in for his first second team league match, and last ditch tackling by the captain, Nick Cusk at the center of the defence.
Kettering toiled in midfield to move the ball around and rarely threatened the Buxton goal, the nearest chance came to Lewis Pywell, who's shot went wide of the far post. Not long after this Lewis went off feeling decidedly unwell. He did return in the second half up-front but proved very ineffective. The club top scorer, Dominik Cusk, dropped back into the midfield to cover where it had to work much harder defending and then trying to get back forwards to support the few attacks Kettering mustered.
Frustrations boiled over during the second half with them culminating in a yellow card for the midfield workhorse, Simon Chambers.
