Purple Patch Pitches Kettering Down

Kettering started the Buxton home match with a new formation in an attempt to stem the flow of goals against them. The new formation seamed to bring a renewed vigour to the team as they quickly established some dominance in the game, repeatedly stifling the Buxton attacks and mounting their own especially down the right side with Paul Brooker making good progress up the flanks. This brought a relatively early reward for Kettering with a well worked opening providing the opportunity for Jason Clarke to slot the ball home from close range.
Unfortunately Kettering were not able to achieve any further success despite their early dominance and soon it was Buxton who started to make headway. Kettering however managed to keep the sheet clean seeing out the first half reasonably comfortably.
I guess the halftime team talk was not inspirational enough as after a brief flurry at the start of the half Kettering found themselves pegged back. Buxton managed to work the ball around the flanks and through into the 'D' and a fine finish past young Matthew Coe removed the early advantage. Five minutes later Kettering were behind when a break away goal by Buxton knocked some of the wind out of their sails. This was quickly followed by two further goals leaving Kettering with a mountain to climb.
The team did rally and once more take the game to Buxton. Captain Nick Cusk had a shot from the edge of the 'D' saved before the midfield workhorse, Simon Chambers, ran through onto a pass from Tim Coleby and powered the ball across the Buxton keeper into the far corner.
Kettering almost managed another goal a few minutes later and continued to pressure the Buxton end through to the final whistle but the target proved to far and Buxton finished the match 4-2 winners. A much improved performance by Kettering but for that purple patch when Buxton scored all their four goals.
