Kettering 2's 5 - 1 St Ives 3's

Kettering men's 2's travelled away to St Ives to play against their 3rd mens team who before going into the weekends game sat top of the table with a perfect sheet of wins and looking to extend their winning streak. However Kettering had other ideas.

Kettering set to playing their style of hockey and forcing the pressure on St Ives from the off with George york narrowly missing an opening goal within minutes. The play continued with Kettering dominating the possession and play all around the pitch for young star York to slot in his first of the match which was well worked goal from open play down the width of the pitch and cut into the D saw york fire in the first goal of many for this match.

Play resumed and a few short corners were won but no rewards this time round but a clever dominating piece of play saw Sam Deprisco play some great skill between himself and Ricky Payne to find himself in the D and taking a shot on goal to every ones disbelief he managed to follow up his on shot to put it in the back of the goal. Great effort!

The midfield continued to work hard and control the pitch with a solid press on St Ives 16's and sideline balls gave them no options and some very frustrating long balls fired through to no avail. Eventually a loose ball broke through after sustained pressure on the oppositions defence giving them a break away opportunity which 2 young players made the most of with ketterings defence making their only error of the game saw a 2 on 1 with matthew coe who couldnt stop the inevitable. the score now sat at 2-1 but with kettering feeling they had this game in the bag they continued to hunt the goals.

George york got the scoreline rolling again with another great goal and soon to be followed up by a blistering strike at a short corner just before half time from sam deprisco leaving the score 4-1 at halftime. Ketterng only had positives at the team talk and sought to control the second half and not concede any more goals.

Kettering continued to dominate the game and pushed their press higher up the pitch searching for another goal. George york had a few more opportunities but he couldnt seal his first hat trick. The final goal came from Skipper Jason Clarke after Sam deprisco drove into the D and unmarked clarke called for a P spot ball to hammer it into goal.

There were man more opportunities for more goals and a rock solid defense held off St Ives leaving matthew coe with little to but he commanded the defense well through out the game. Man of the match was awarded to Sam Deprisco for some great play and domination in the midfield. Ketterings training and play style continue to work well and their confidence grows ready for another away match against March Town next weekend.
