Digging deep to take a win against tough opposition

This week Kettering men's 2's traveled to March town and unsure of what sort of team they would face with this week's team seeing two debut's from Ben York and Ed Jennings.

Kettering won the toss and opted for push back but were soon turned over and a very tense 10 mins put the kettering defence until full pressure from the off. March town persistently attacked with intent but never really managed to get a shot on target and what scraps they could muster goal keeper Matthew Coe had easily covered. Eventually Kettering woke up and started to play the type of game they are used to.

Kettering began to attack using some good play through midfielders ricky payne and sam deprisco to link with the forwards Don coleman, george york and matthew wood. Some very close shots on target but not quite a goal on the scoreboard. The game continued as a very brutal end to end game with the kettering defence stepping up to the mark with solid performances all round.

Come half time the team felt their was a goal or two to be had and were unlucky to have missed a few close encounters. It was also clear the umpires were letting the game flow and the only option was to play for the whistle and persist till the end.

Second half kicked off with much of the same and saw debut players settling into their roles well. March town won a few short corners but could not utilise the moment. Kettering persisted to put in attacking motions but could'nt quite link up to score. With about 10 mins left on the clock some solid player up the midfield won a free hit just outside March's 25 yard line. Skipper clarke took it himself and up against a player took it to his reverse to fire a crash ball in off a reverse strike for sam deprisco to perfectly sink it into the goal. What a moment for the team and emotions running high.

The last remaining minutes of this were tense but kettering took it in their stride and continued to attack and maintain possession until the whistle. The final whistle blew and it was fair to say the team were buzzing off what was a well fought battle for 3 points. Debutante Ed Jennings took man of the match for some lovely skill and play on each of the wings and looks to be a player to keep an eye on. Next week see's Kettering host Cambridge South at home.
