Kettering fall for the first time...

Kettering Mens 2's travelled to Spalding expecting another strong performance and result, knowing that the Spalding team had been beaten by Louth at the same ground just last week.

This was never to be though, as Spalding fielded a highly skilled and experienced side, who quite simply were too strong for Kettering on the day. Almost immediately from the start Kettering were being put under pressure, and the slick passing and moving game Kettering have become used to playing just didn't seem to click. After a spell of strong pressure Spalding broken the deadlock and became the first team to beat the Kettering defence this season. This seemed to spur Kettering on, and the game became much more end to end, with Kettering seemingly able to get the ball moving on the break, but unable to make any telling plays when they approached the Spalding 'D', due to some outstanding defence by the opposition. However, on one such break, a great ball into a dangerous area by man of the match Jason Clarke saw some pinball in the D, with Sam Deprisco eventually managing to scramble the ball home. 1-1 at half time, and Kettering were still in the game.

The second half marked saw Spalding in a much more dominant fashion. After young Archie Colwill made a fantastic stop on the line from a short corned, the ball appeared to clearly be taken behind the base line by a Spalding player, only to then be bought back into play and then into the back of the net. The 'goal' was allowed to stand however, and this seemed to take the life out of Kettering. They kept pushing, but Spalding managed another 2 goals before the whistle came. The game ended 4-1 against.

Kettering will not think on this too much, and will take the positives from the game, as well as knowing what needs to be worked on this week. Next week is another game, and another chance to showcase the strong passing game that has worked so well previously.
