A match report using a series of tankas
The game began. The
First minutes were all Kettering,
Yet a short-corner
And a free shot from the right
Midway into the first half,
Both by the same blonde
Long Sutton midfield maestro,
Left Kettering two down.
Despite some good play down the
Wings, Sutton were dominating.
Defence was solid,
Though the score-line suggests not.
Chances were few and
Far between and Kettering could
Not convert despite hard work.
As half-time was blown
Kettering knew better hockey
Needed to be played.
The team took their positions
And were ready to fight back…
The Kettering of the
Second half were like a new
Team, Sutton barely
Had a sniff of the goal. Huge
Pressure in the Sutton half
Led to Jason Clarke
Intercepting a ‘sixteen’
And slipping the ball
To Ollie Smith at the top
Of the ‘D’, who whacked it in.
2 – 1 read the score;
Could Kettering stage a comeback?
Things got tense and rough –
Colwill and Storey, the two
Smallest players on the pitch,
Managed to use their strength
To floor players twice their size
Whilst winning the ball.
But even intense passion,
Determination and work
(Plus an intense last
Ten minutes where a Sutton
Goal was disallowed)
Wasn’t enough for Kettering
To scrape a result against
A well-structured team,
Who deserve the league’s top spot.
Kettering can’t wait for
The away match post-Christmas –
Which they are looking to win…
