Average Alford axe awful Kettering

It's been a long time since Kettering didn't score a goal in a match!

There's not much to say about another hugely disappointing result for KM2s as they fell to a very average Alford side - who were fortunate their opponents were far below average. Again.
The first half flew by, with periods of genuinely good hockey by both sides. Kettering's policy of transferring the ball around instead of just firing it forward seemed to be yielding fruitful results, as the home team spent a large amount of the half hassling the Alford defence, alas to no results. Many teams have what they dub a 'midfield wizard' - yet Alford had a player who looked like an actual wizard. His long hair and large glasses was the centre of the away team's hive-like attack. However, the first-half ended 0 - 0...
Captain Raymond Payne laid it into the team at half-time. Kettering knew they should be ahead and they set out to prove it.
Before long, Alford scored. Adam Mills was overwhelmed on the right side and couldn't defend several men at once. They broke through and scored. 0 - 1. Then a 20 minute period of Kettering pressure began. The ball didn't leave the Alford half. Yet once again there was a familiar story in the annals of KM2s - despite being on top, there was no goal to reward Kettering's apparent dominance. Frustrations flew high. Moreover, the moment Kettering turned the ball over Alford swarmed and went one-on-one with the Kettering keeper. They slammed the shot into the roof of the goal and the score became 2 - 0. The game ended minutes later.
Frankly, a terrible result. Maybe next week will herald the end of Kettering's six game losing streak - an almost unheard-of stat in the current incarnation of the KM2s.
