CS3 2-1 KM2 in an incredibly frustrating match

As the KM2s travelled once more to Cambridge, all knew that this was a big game - every game is a must-win, obviously, but this was the 'mustest' must-win. Kettering lost 2-1.
The first-half started and Kettering looked rampant, having taken a leaf out of their opponents book and attacking straight-away. Cambridge did well to cope with the pressure caused by the Kettering front-line; Harry Tanser especially was hungry for more goals after his two last week. It was the returned Oliver Smith who grabbed the away goal, however, after skirmishes in the 'D' caused by the York brothers allowed Smith to slip the ball around the keeper. 0-1. Throughout the half, the Kettering teamwork was fantastic and the dedicated away supporters commented at half-time that this was some of the best hockey they'd seen played by the KM2s all season. Mike Lavender's aerials were a constant threat and the patience of the whole team shifting the ball from side-to-side was wonderful. As has often been the case this season, it was the lack of clinical finishing in the 'D' that failed to bury the game in the first-half. Cambridge equalised after two shots at the Kettering were saved and the ensuing melee resulted in a Cambridge forward firing the ball into the net. 1-1 at the end of the half.
In the second half, Kettering seemed to lack something that had been there before. Stopping the ball looked monstrously difficult and the game became slightly tinged with barbarity. Archie Colwill was bodied and almost lain on top of several time by the same opposition player, but heroically shrugged the bigger man off and skinned him whenever he got the chance. Kettering lost Max Foster to a well-deserved green card for not having the ball perfectly still when he went to take a free-hit. It was after Foster returned to the field of play and Cambridge were allowed to take the same free hit twice after a miscommunication by their own forwards that Cambridge snatched what turned out to be the winner. The ball was played around the edge of the Kettering 'D' and was eventually smashed in at speed. A Cambridge forward managed to get a miracle touch from within the mass of bodies at the top of the 'D' and the Kettering keeper had no idea about the ball's whereabouts until he heard it hit the backboard of the goal. 2-1. Kettering kept pushing to equalise; Tanser had some good chances but the very handy Cambridge defence and their keeper kept him out. Jack Bridges was fantastic throughout the game, tirelessly both tracking back and creating attacking opportunities by using his skills at the right time. The game ended 2-1 with Kettering frustrated that they hadn't secured 3 points. This made the already depressing Cambridge clubhouse even more so.
Next week sees the KM2s face the CS2s' Let's see if we recognise any of the 2s players from this week...?
