KM2 8-2 BD3

Given what happened prior to the match, the KM2s' final score against Bourne Deeping is a fantastic result - hopefully heralding a resurgence in form... Bourne Deeping (who all looked very similar to each other…) arrived wearing the same colour shirts and socks as Kettering and had no alternative kit available. Kettering were offered a choice: the game to be abandoned, with Kettering getting 3 points, Bourne losing 3 and a 5-0 win for the hosts; or, on the other hand, Bourne would wear bibs and the game would be played. A democratic vote was taken (surprisingly there was no U.S. intervention) and the game would be played - all the under-18 players wanted to play, just for the record. And so the game began, with Bourne in green bibs...
For the first five minutes, Bourne looked quite good - Kettering went 0-1 down after some sloppy defending and goalkeeping. However, the tables soon turned; Bourne caved in and Kettering looked composed, quick and dangerous. KM2s captain Rickiniho Payne levelled the score, the goal being a result of some intense pressure. Ben York scored Kettering's second, a goal he himself deemed "amazing" - lucky for him there's no video evidence to testify against his claim... Unfortunately, Bourne scored on the stroke of half-time due to some sloppy marking (naming no names, Max Foster).
Kettering knew that they should've been ahead by the break. The game looked like it was going to be umpteenth time this season Kettering dominated a game and lost due to lack of clinical finishing.
The second half began. Before long, the unthinkable happened: a penalty for the home team! Harry Tanser stepped up to take it, the team were confident. Clipping the bottom of the crossbar, Tanser's shot missed by a fraction of an inch - he was gutted. Never one to be disheartened though, Tanser scored from open play just a minute later. The floodgates then opened for Kettering; solid and selfless play cut open a tired Bourne side. George York grabbed Kettering's fourth, Jason Clarke the fifth - a bullet of a shot. Payne and Tanser also grabbed a second each to put the score at 7-2! Payne's goal came from what must've been Kettering's twelfth short-corner - Jack Bridges unleashed a drag flick so pathetic that it barely left the ground, luckily Rickiniho was there to poke the trickling shot by the keeper. This attacking onslaught wasn't without some defensive heroics, however, as Josh Cox once again impressed at right-back and Gary Thorpe produced a world-class save off the goal-line. Kettering continued their composed play right until the end of the match - Tanser even managed to complete his hat-trick by denying Payne his, nicking the ball off the end of Payne's stick and slipping the ball into the net.
A cracking performance, let's just hope this for can be carried through to the rest of the season!
