With a bare 11 players in the team, the KM2s trekked to Long Sutton in the pleasant early-afternoon sun with vague hopes of a result against the league leaders. Alas, it was not to be; a rudderless performance resulting in a well-deserved loss.
The game began and Kettering were immediately on the backfoot (N.B. this seems to be written every week...). Long Sutton's golden boy won them several short-corners, though his 'drag-flicks' were kept out by Kettering. Still, Sutton were cutting Kettering apart and 2 well worked goals put them ahead at the break; the away team looked poor.
The second half just got worse for Kettering, as hard as that may be to imagine. Ben York managed to grab a goal somewhere amongst the Sutton onslaught. Another 5 goals were scored by the home team, though it could've been more - if only they realised that shooting straight from the top of the 'D' when there's only the keeper to beat is not a good idea. Individual highlights: Archie Colwill impressed (as usual), but in midfield this time; the defence, in spite of the score-line, was good - just run ragged by a better team.
Spalding 2s next week, let's see if they deserve to be below their 3s in the league.
