Honours even in intra-club match

The start of the new season saw a new formation for the mens 3rds and 4ths. A challenge against recently promoted ladies 2 faced them.

The opposition got off to a flying start by scoring within the first 2 minutes. Then 3 minutes later, after settling into the game, the men launched a quick counter attack down the right that gave Mark Hawkins his first goal of the season. Relentless pressure at the top of the D from the ladies led to a tap in at the far post. Unfazed by the goal, the men kept attacking through good play from wing-backs Ben Smith and Ben Mayes. Fabulous desire from Josh Cox and Dan Carter led to a series of short corners. A great short corner routine saw Dan Carter get his first goal from a back post tap in just before half time.

After half time a lapse in concentration led to the men conceding two goals in quick succession. They were left with a mountain to climb but they kept pressuring the ladies defence. Finally a reward for the pressure as they got another short corner. A great injection from Josh Cox saw Tony Heath switch left to Ludwig Roder who fired home on his debut. More pressure saw Ben Smith, Dan Carter and Shaun Curtis have shots saved by the keeper. While having to defend, the ladies forwards were challenging the defence and forced good saves from Tom Hamden-Smith.

A final short corner saw Mark Hawkins convert from the top of the D in the last few minutes.

It was a promising start to the season with great signs of things to come. A man of the match debut from Ludwig Roder is an exciting prospect for the club.
