Promising youngsters shine in friendly match

Kettering 3rds had a gap in their league schedule so an intra-club friendly was arranged with the 4th/5th team players who don't regularly play league hockey.
It was another chance to showcase the young players in the club and they didn't disappoint. Samuel Tattersall, Thomas Kemp & Caleb Fox were some of the players to strut their stuff.
The game consisted of three periods to allow captains Neil Freeman and Mark Hawkins to organise their teams and also to give people a chance for a quick breather.

In the first period, Mark's Whites were on top and they forced a series of short corners but they couldn't beat Ray Norwood in goal. With seconds to go, and somewhat against the run of play, the Blues took the lead. Good work by Tom Askham set up Gavin Ferries who beat Sam Berridge in the Whites goal.
In the second period Ben Mills arrived to bolster the Blues and they made their numerical advantage count when they doubled their lead with a goal from Mills. Undeterred, the Whites stepped up their efforts and Josh Cox calmly stroked his shot into the bottom corner - game on!

Into the final period and it continued to be end-to-end action. Both sides played some good passing hockey and there were chances for both sets of forwards. In the end it was the Blues that prevailed. Mills squared a pass to Thomas Kemp and the youngster calmly put his shot into the far corner.

The final score was 3-1 to the Blues but there were no losers because everyone enjoyed a good match, played in a good spirit and with a decent standard of hockey.

Next week the 3rd team entertain Cambridge South 5 in the league.
