Kettering held on for 10 minutes, but Ashby were just too hard to handle. At the start it looked promising, all eleven players and the rare luxury of a substitute, two players making their league debut...
After 10 minutes of quite relaxed, end-to-end hockey, the Ashby side turned up the intensity and scored a well-taken goal, and then a second in quick succession. Dangerous play in the 'D' by Nigel Parkes led to a short corner and a goal, slipping through Bill Greenwood's legs on the right hand post. The half ended with a goal at each end, with Jack Brooker stroking in an excellent cross.
Ashby began the second period of play with 4 goals, the last being an unfortunate own-goal by keeper Matthew Coe. Then, a similar cross that lead to Brooker's goal found it's way to debutant Ben Smith who poked it home. A final goal by Ashby closed the half, leaving Kettering defeated but not disheartened. Man of the Match was awarded to both Bill Greenwood and Jack Brooker. Final score: 9-2 Ashby.
