A boring game if you're looking at the statistics but a fantastic game against Chesterfield can be chalked up for Kettering.
In the first half, the journey had taken its toll on everyone with various stages of cramp but nevertheless Kettering soldiered on. A Series of good attacks by Chesterfield asked questions of the Kettering defence but were repelled by captain Vince Davy and Bill Greenwood. Good passing opened up Chesterfield's defence and a few shots by Lewis Pywell and Jack Bridges attempted to break the deadlock but were kept out. A fantastic shot from the edge of the 'D', struck hard and low snuck past Matt Coe in goal and gave Chesterfield the lead at the end of the first half.
The second half opened with much of the same hockey from both sides. A string of saved short corners couldn't increase Chesterfield's lead, but confusion in defence between Coe and Don Coleman led to a shot at a wide open goal to make the score 2-0. A rare short corner for Kettering found it's way to Tony Heath who stroked it in from the top of the 'D'. Unfortunatley, there wasn't enough time for Kettering to mount a comeback and the game finished 2-1.
Man of The Match: Jack Bridges.
