Due to a bizarre set of circumstances, an 8-man Kettering team travelled to Barton for a game that had already been lost. It was decided that it was a friendly.
On arrival, Kettering were given 3 players from the opposition, affectionately known as Bill, Phil and Steve. Thus the game began...
Barton broke quickly and tested Kettering but didn't manage to score. Some great plays from both sides couldn't produce goals and they half ended at 0-0.
Phil was swapped for another Barton player, Jake, and the second half began with an own-goal from the new man's first touch! A short corner by Barton was blocked on the line by Nigel Parkes (for the second time in 2 weeks), but the subsequent penalty was put wide. Another goal came for Barton soon enough. However, Tony Heath, reliable as ever, slotted one home from a short corner. The game continued, and a triple save by Kettering's keeper Matthew Coe stopped the score from rising. Unfortunately, that was not enough and the final Barton goal came as the final whistle was blown.
