Creditable performance to no avail

Kettering travelled to play Cambridge Nomads 3 with a reshuffled team. Mike Ramsay played in an unfamiliar role as the lone front-man. Behind him, there was a five-man midfield, bolstered by the return of Phil Coward.
Unfortunately, the visitors struggled in the early stages of the match. The Nomads midfield and forwards put Kettering under pressure and got their rewards with two goals in the first twenty minutes.

Near the end of the half, Kettering came close to pulling a goal back. Good work from James Hogg set up Coward and his reverse stick shot was deflected goalwards by Ramsay. A good save kept the Cambridge goal intact until half-time.

An injury to Tony Heath meant a rejig for the second half. Kettering started to get their passing game together with Dan Carter, Ben Smith and Ben York showing good skills. Debutant Jake Siddons also gave a creditable performance in midfield.

Skipper Neil Manley had the ball in the net from a short corner but only after a deflection of his foot. Kettering kept pushing forwards with Hogg and Manley bringing good saves out of the home keeper.
With the minutes ticking away, the visitors committed more players to attack but this left space at the back. The Cambridge centre-forward exploited this to finish coolly and wrap up the three points.
