Convincing win maintains impressive run

Kettering Men's 3rd XI travelled to St Neots 5 hoping to continue from where they left off last week. This ambition was duly achieved as the visitors took control of the game from the outset.
After a period of sustained pressure, Kettering put together a slick passing move down the right flank. Paul Brooker and Ethan Smart were involved in the build up which led to a cross in from Tom Storey. Geoff Elliott timed his run into the circle perfectly and his pinpoint finish left the St Neots keeper (doubling up from their 1st team) no chance.
Kettering continued to dominate and Smart came close to doubling the lead but his reverse stick shot was narrowly wide. Ben York went foraging down the left wing and his run into the circle forced a sliding save from the keeper. The visitors got the second goal they deserved after more great play down the right. This time Ben Smith turned provider and his cross found Smart in space. He coolly slotted underneath the keeper to give Kettering a 2-0 lead at the interval.
In the second half St Neots upped their game but still did not threaten to score. Kettering keeper Ray Norwood was a spectator throughout the match. Kettering looked dangerous all over the pitch - Adam Mills and York down the left, Jacob Tattersall pulling the strings in central midfield and Smith, Brooker and Storey probing down the right.
The third goal for Kettering came after great strength and perseverance from York. He released Brooker who slid the ball through to Storey. Smart was on hand to get his second with a lifted finish past the stranded St Neots keeper.
The visitors kept pushing forward and skipper Neil Manley fired narrowly wide after a surging run. Following a short corner routine, Storey had the chance to get on the scoresheet but his effort was beaten away.
It finished 3-0 in the end, a very composed and professional performance from a young team. Next week, Kettering host St Ives 4.
