Decent draw for first friendly

First friendly of the season vs what we knew was going to be a talented group of U18s from Kimbolton School. Kettering fielded a good quality team of a mix of the 1s and 2s squad, but the difficulty we had was the fact that a lot of these players hadn't played together before and some were new to the club. Remembering names was going to be hard, let alone trying to gel together as a team. However, this did not seem to faze the players and Kettering's midfield and forward lines were passing the ball around as if they had played together for years. Within the first 15 minutes, Kettering had all the possession and had swiftly put away 2 goals, both from the stick of new girl Sophie Reynolds. Kettering had many more chances to score more but some scrambled defending from Kimboton kept Kettering's tally at 2. However this strong forward performance left us a little unorganised in defence and late in the 2nd half Kimbolton proved they were quick on the break and had managed to level the score by half time. With a quick chat during the half time break, Kettering had managed to sort out their defensive organisation and the second half was a much stronger defensive performance. Shez Coe twice came close to scoring Kettering's 3rd goal, but a short corner lob hit the crossbar and a late sweep into the goal was judged by the umpire not to have made contact. A great first game by all who played, promising start for both the 1s and 2s squad.
