We put up a good fight.

We knew from the outset that this would be a hard game for our first friendly back after the summer break, especially with the weather still being so hot. Due to the heat the match was played in three 20 minute thirds.

From the outset the men proved that their speed and strength were going to be difficult for the Ladies 1s to cope with. However we had our fair share of success winning a number of short corners, but unfortunately the quick running of the Mens no.1 runner made it very hard for to get shots on target. Meg Forader also made some fantastic solo runs down the right wing to cause the Men some trouble in their D.

However it took until the 2nd third of the match for the 0-0 deadlock to be broken. The Ladies had some unfortunate luck with Sophie Reynolds and Beth Winfield both picking up injuries. This called for others to play out of position and the confusion allowed Oliver Smith to score 2 goals in relatively quick succession. Tom Hampden-Smith who was playing in goal for the Ladies proved a good asset and made some good saves to keep the score low.

As the game wore on it was showing more and more that the fitness of the men was better than the Ladies but the Ladies fought on to keep the score at only 2-0.
