Kettering 0-5 Rugby

Kettering Ladies 1s had their 2nd tough friendly versus Rugby Ladies 1s, a team that won promotion out of Division 2 last year and have strengthened in numbers and talent since.

Kettering were under the cosh from the start but fought tirelessly throughout the game. Two of our main objectives were to try to come to grips with a new formation and to transfer the ball throughout our defence and midfield. The back 4 of Laura Beacon, Beth Winfield, Stacy Hall and man of the match Emma Storey, together with our centre midfielders Jess Austin and Sophie Reynolds proved that the formation could allow quick, effective transfers and this worked really well especially in the first half to enable us to keep possession. This meant that after 35 minutes we were only 1 nil down.

Unfortunately tiredness started to set in as Rugby used their 5 substitutes effectively to keep the pressure on our 12 man team and the next 20 minutes we found ourselves 4 nil down. Some good saves by Keeper Nik Baker meant it wasn't more than this.

However Kettering we not dishearted and kept fighting and managed to get some good posession in our opponents D thanks to some excellent running from Imogen Smith and Meg Forader down our wings.

The game finished with a score line of 0-5, but Kettering can take confidence out of the defensive part of the formation and hopefully with our full team available can make the attacking part work just as well.
