Result does not reflect the performance

A mammoth 2 hour journey through some highly amusing place names led Kettering ladies 1st team to Leek with only 11 players. Early in the game Kettering's defense struggled to contain the Leek players and some loose marking combined with excellent play by Leek meant that Kettering found themselves 3 - 0 down against a team at the top of the league and scoring for fun. However in true Kettering style the team rallied and started to take the game back to Leek. Some superb interlinking play by Natalie Irons, Harriet Graham and Kate Randle on the right let to several chances but unfortunately Kettering were unable to convert. In an open second half, the lack of Kettering substitutes began to take its toll and the players started to tire. In the last few minutes Leek scored a fourth goal after sustained pressure led to the ball being stopped illegally on the line and a penalty flick was converted. Despite the scoreline Kettering can take positives from the fact that this is the best they have played in the league so far and are keen to take that improved form into the match next week.
