2 Short Corner Strikes win the day for Kettering

Kettering knew they had to get their season started today with 3 losses so far it hadn't been a promising start. The game started pretty even with both teams getting some chance on goal and having equal play in midfield. However Kettering were letting themselves down with their passing and were finding it hard to work the ball up the pitch in periods of the first half. We soon found that the Worcester forwards were always searching to get a short corner rather than have a shot and their close stick skills meant they won a few short corners. Luckily for Kettering they didn't manage to find the net. Having got the ball up the other end Kettering themselves won a short corner. After a few players had to be swapped for the Kettering line and 2 were sent to the half line for Worcester, Laura Cave for Kettering, finally got a shot away and it was deflected by the defender in front of the keeper to give Kettering the breakthrough. The score finished 1-0 at half time. In the second half Worcester made a successful run forward and managed to get a shot off which was well placed wide and hit the side board for the score to now be 1-1. Kettering pulled their socks up after this disappointment and got their passing going making some lovely moves down the right hand side to give a few chances on goal. Mandy Starsmore-Young almost scoring the best of these at the far post, but the ball hit her foot instead. Kettering managed to win another short corner when a Worcester defender hit the ball away. Again with a straight strike, Kate Randle hit the first runner's foot and the ball made a loop over the keeper and into the back of the net. Finally Kettering getting some luck. Saviour of the game, Kate Randle, then got mistakenly given a yellow card after she was tackled by 2 Worcester midfielders at the same time. Luckily this made no impact on the game and the result ended 2-1. Kettering with some relief now they had some points on the board.
