Kettering triumph in Soggy Solihull

Kettering have played Solihull in previous years and know them as a very strong team who have played together for a number of seasons. Coming off last weeks win though we were confident in our abilities and knew a win could get us a few places higher in the league. In terms of strength and skill Sollihull and Kettering were evenly matched, both teams getting chances on goal. Solihull were very good moving off the ball and the Kettering's defence were pulled around at the start of the match but managed to keep them at bay and get organised as the game went on. Towards the end of the second half Kettering won a short corner and a great strike from Kate Randle put the ball into the right corner of the goal, just out of reach of the keeper. In the second half Solihull pressed with trying to put 4 upfront when attacking. Kettering midfield put in a sterling performance though, covering players and coming right back to the D to defend. Kate Metcalfe in goal made some stunning saves to keep a clean sheet and to keep Kettering in the lead. Towards the end of the second half tired legs started to show, but luckily youngster Anna Ellson was feeling fresh and full of running. A few times she took the ball on a tremendous run down the left hand side. A few minutes from the end one of these runs culminated in a goal line scramble, and Harriet Graham was on hand to jab the ball into the goal. Game finished 2-0 and Kettering moved from 9th to 7th in the table.
