Coming from 2 straight wins, Kettering were looking forward to getting some more points under their belts, but would the week off have an affect on performance as well as the consistent rain? Their opponents, Stourport 2s, were in a similar league position so we knew this would be a close game and we needed to be at our best to get any points. Stourport started the better team, and the wet weather seemed to be affecting Kettering's first touch and passing accuracy. However Kettering managed to soak up the pressure and eventually got down the other end with some great passing play down the right hand side, and managed to win a couple of short corners. However towards the end of the first half Kettering succumbed to Stourport's pressure and hard tackling and let in a goal as Stourport broke in numbers through the middle of the pitch. This did not break Kettering's willingness to fight for the ball though and they kept the pressure on and managed to get a few shots on goal which unfortunately went wide. At half time the score was 0 - 1 but Kettering were still confident they could get this back. Even though Kettering had numbers on the sideline to keep energy up, tracking back with Stourport's quick and skilful mids in the second half was proving an issue. Stourport with a break down the right, had supporting numbers coming in on the left and managed to get the ball across the D for a knock in at the far post. Kettering still battled with some good skilful passing play through the middle of the pitch, but were unable to convert any of this pressure into goals. The game ending 0 - 2. Luckily this has had no affect on league position, but goals are going to be a must in the next few games.
