Today Kettering were playing top of the league Leek. We knew we had played great games against 2 of the top teams in the league in the last 2 weeks and gained a couple of draws. If we played the same this week we were confident we could again sneak a point if not the win. The game was very even, with Kettering working the ball down the pitch well using the speed of our youngsters to get the ball into the Leek 25. In defence our Midfield worked hard to stop Leek breaking quickly and our Defence worked well together to stop the Leek attack getting into the D for the majority of the match and even the few times they managed to breach our defence our Keeper Kate Metcalfe was on point with some cracking saves. Emma Findlay had a storming game at left back, not her natural position, and earned her man of the match vote. The score at half time was 0-0 with both teams having penalty corners but had not been able to capitalise. In the last 5 minutes captain Laura Cave took a hit to the face and received a deep cut above her left eye and had to go off. Unfortunately it was just after this, as Kettering were re-organising, that Leek managed to score their goal from a really unlucky deflection from a Kettering stick. Kettering still persevered and managed to get the ball into the Leek D and win a penalty corner in the dying minutes. Alas, it was not to be and Kettering were left feeling dejected after they had played so well. Luckily scores in the league went with us and we have kept our league position.
