Winning on the water based and Kettering move up a place.

Still on a high from our recent run of good form, Kettering faced a new challenge in the Water Based pitch at Beeston. The first half was quite even with both teams getting in each others D. Kettering had the better of the chances which were cleared away on the goal line by Beeston's defence. The game throughout was feisty with the bouncy pitch producing some tricky defensive situations and we did concede a few short corners. However Linzi Webster was on form and managed to run the majority of them down. At half time the score was 0-0. Kettering knew some of the tackling in midfield had to be a bit more controlled and this won the day in the second half as Kettering calmed down and started to produce some great tackling and passing play. The deadlock was broken when Linzi Webster and Cath Irvin combined on a slick penalty corner routine, leading to Cath sweeping the ball home. Our forwards started to link up beautifully and there were a few 1 on 1 chances for Sienna McNeil who was only denied by some good blocking by the Beeston Keeper. Kettering's second goal again came from a penalty corner. Linzi Webster with her 2nd assist fed the ball to Laura Cave at the top of the D, who slammed it about knee height towards goal and Sienna McNeil was on hand to deflect the ball like a bullet into the goal. Finally the 1-0 track record for Kettering was over and we could relax a little knowing there was a bigger cushion and we pushed forward more and more. The third goal came from Linzi and Cath again linking up. Linzi threw herself across the D to slide in to deflect home a Cath Irvin long ball. At the other end our clean sheet was kept by Liz Metcalfe producing one her of brilliant left post clearances from a penalty corner strike from Beeston in the last second of the game. Rightfully it was a day for our forwards and midfield in the Player of the Match votes. Linzi and Sienna leading the race but Sienna winning overall. Kettering move up to 5th in the league with 1 game to go.
