Kettering put the Boot in

After a week break due to half term Kettering were back in action against Boots 2s this weekend. Kettering produced another fine example of defensive solidarity right from the start with player of the match, Stacy Hall leading by example, clearing the ball from goal line at one point during the game! The away side were kept at bay by a strong team display that saw midfield players Kate Randle and Sophie Reynolds working tirelessly to close the opposition down and distribute the ball in to attack. The game itself had a physical nature about it but this physicality soon rewarded Kettering with a penalty flick decision after the pace of Jess Moricca was too much for the Boots defence to handle and the Goalkeeper tripped her up just as she was about the unleash the shot. Toni Hustwait neatly tucked the ball away to give the home side the lead. Kettering soon followed this up with another goal from Cath Irvin who sweetly knocked the ball past the agile keeper following a series of slick passing moves down the right. With a comfortable 2-0 lead and a tiring opposition, Kettering saw the opportunity to continue to press forwards and were unlucky to not gain further goals to the tally straight away. Eventually, a relay of passing down the right found Meg Forader who used her lightning pace to take on the defender and then managed to slot the ball past the keeper from an impossibly wide angle. In the last minutes of the game Kettering were unfortunate not to gain a 4th when a ball found Linzi Webster who roofed the ball over the keeper, but the decision was that the ball played in to the D was too high, so the goal was disallowed. Overall, a good win and another excellent display from a team who are now starting to embed and work together fluidly and effectively.
