Tamworth 1-0 Kettering

With a drizzly early morning start Kettering were braced for a hard fought contest away to their opposition this week. With previous experience of these games being quite physical Kettering approached the game with a desire to take something from this trip. As the game started, as with other games this season, Kettering found they were on the front foot, but this didn't last. The majority of the game was played in the centre of the pitch with neither team managing to break through into the attacking quarters. Kettering had the first real chance of the game when Harriet Goswell received a ball that put her through 1-1 with the goalkeeper, she managed to hold the ball up well and played a square pass to player of the match Sophie Reynolds who had hurtled up the pitch to support her team mate. Unfortunately the shot missed the goal by millimetres. Kettering managed to win a couple of penalty corners but the slickness that has been present in previous games wasn't quite apparent to see the side take advantage. As the second half started Tamworth managed to echo Kettering's through attempt on the goal with the difference being that a well-struck ball managed to find the target. Frustratingly as the game continued this was to be the home sides one and only shot at the Kettering goal. Despite the efforts of the away side time was ticking away and Tamworth broke down play well. As desperation set in Kettering started to rely on the long ball but this tactic did not work and Kettering finished the game feeling deflated as the performance was definitely worth a draw if not more.
