So much effort for no reward

Kettering Ladies XI looked to kick their second half of the season off with a win against Worcester ladies this weekend but it wasn't to be their day. Kettering had the majority of possession for most of the first half with them coming close a number of times to taking the lead. An assertive run into the semi-circle saw Sophie Reynolds connect with a pass from player-of-the match Cath Irvin but the ball just refused to cross the goal line. Kettering persisted but found the long ball from Worcester caught them out a few times allowing the away side to break. Worcester took the lead from a penalty corner just before the second half whistle as a scuffed shot hit Charlie Fowle in the shoulder before rebounding off the post and sitting comfortably for the post player to knock in.
As the second half started, fatigue seemed to be setting in with attempted passes not fully reaching their target and the home side dropping quite deep and not reacting quick enough to break downs in play. The home side worked tirelessly trying to get the ball into attack with some exhausting work from midfield through Kate Randle, Toni Hustwait and Cath Irvin but despite the probing it just wasn't meant to be their day and a number of shots skimmed past the posts or were blocked by a well-organised defence.
Next week Kettering take on tough opposition in Nottingham University away but will look to replicate their form from the friendlies.
