Kettering 0-4 Rugby
Leaders prove too clinical.
Kettering Ladies XI travelled away to take on top of the league side, Rugby, in what was anticipated to be a tough contest. On another cold and sleeting day, both sides were feeling the nerves and the first 20 minutes of the game both sides were throwing everything they had at each other, but not quite breaking the deadlock. Rugby soon took the lead as a first time strike on a short corner found its way past the Kettering defence. The second goal soon followed as a player dribbled into the circle and took a punt on a shot that deflected from a Kettering stick into the goal.
At the half time break Kettering still felt they could take something from this game and the second half started with the same intensity as the first. Unfortunately it was not meant to be for the away side today. Despite winning a number of penalty corners via Megan Forader
and player of the match Charlie Fowle
, they just could not find the needed goal. Rugby soon scored their 3rd goal from another well-rehearsed corner routine, with the final goal coming in the last few minutes of the game from another deflected shot. Despite the result not going Kettering’s way sometimes you have to recognise that some teams will be better than you on the day and this was the case today.
