Kettering unable to mount comeback from 3 down.

Ashby 3-1 Kettering
Kettering Ladies XI travelled to Ashby this weekend needing a win to maintain position in the league table, but the side are still to find their winning form coming away with another disappointing loss.
For the first 10 minutes of the game it seemed that things were going to go Kettering’s way as they applied pressure and got the ball into attack for shots on the opposition goal. Player of the match Megan Forader was making her trademark runs down the right and Maria Higgins was unlucky to not put the away side ahead in these first interactions between the two sides.
The home side soon found their way in to the game and were unlucky not to score as a ball hit the post, although their tenacity soon rewarded them with a corner which was converted into a goal as the strike took a heavy deflection from the Kettering defence. The half finished 1-0 but again Kettering still felt they were able to take something from this contest. Ashby were to score the next goal as their striker attempted a reverse shot but scuffed it only for it to fall very fortunately to a second player who tucked the ball away for their second goal. As heads began to drop and passes were being misplaced, Kettering struggled to maintain possession. They conceded the third goal as play had moved everyone over to their right side of the pitch and then a quick hit across found their striker who didn’t fluff her reverse shot again to give them a commanding lead. Kettering did manage to get a late consolation goal as Cath Irvin found herself driving into space to strike the ball from the top of the circle. With approximately 7 minutes left of play Kettering did push and up their game and a run from Forader was unlucky to not end with a second goal for the visiting side. Laura Beacon and Charlie Fowle also penetrated the circle to try and get that much needed goal but it was just not meant to be and time ran out.
Next week Kettering take on Solihull in an early game where they need to get back to their winning ways.
