Belper come from a goal down to thwart Kettering

With the hopes of promotion gone and the prospect of relegation not possible, Kettering had an opportunity this weekend to play a game with no pressure or expectation. However, with the weather dominating focus once again this half of the season, and another disjointed performance, Kettering found themselves on the end of a frustrating defeat.
From the start of the game Kettering could not get used to the bounce of the pitch and with passes being missed, heads dropped and confidence levels lowered. Belper, who are already relegated, put pressure on the away side and if not for some exceptional defensive work from player of the match Bethany Lewis, they might have found a way through! When Belper did break through Nik Baker pulled off some good saves to keep Kettering in the game. As the snow began to hurtle down on to the pitch in blizzard like conditions it was Kettering that found the first goal as a trademark run down the right by Megan Forader found Emma Findlay in front of their goalkeeper whose quick reactions poked the ball through the keepers legs. This should have been the spur the team needed but the unsettled state seemed to remain with them and just before half time Belper found the equalising goal.
Kettering started the second half a lot better and seemed to be starting to work together as a team again but this could not be retained. Errors were made across the pitch with passes going astray and confidence becoming a clear issue for the players it was no surprise when Belper found the second goal to secure them the win. Having won no penalty corners all game it is safe to say that this was not a performance reflective of Kettering’s style of play at all!
Mother Nature has definitely had an impact on Kettering’s second half to the season, it is just fortunate they had a good first half otherwise they could have found themselves in a similar position to last season. With still two games to go though, hopefully the side can finish on a high and play the type of hockey that gets them back to winning ways and gets everyone smiling again!
