Kettering sweep aside Tamworth

With neither team in danger of relegation the contest was one both sides could potentially enjoy to see out the season. Tamworth didn’t appear to have their usual side out for this game which Kettering realised in the first few minutes of the game and as a result the home side dominated possession keeping Tamworth penned in their half. As a number of shots were being narrowly missing the target Kettering started to think the goals were never going to come but a breakthrough soon came as joint player of the match, Ellie Peachment’s battling saw her through to tap the ball in past the keeper. This was soon followed by a second as captain Laura Beacon wanted to get in on the action from centre back, taking the ball past a number of players to score with a reverse strike.

The second half continued with Kettering pressing forwards as other joint player of the match Mandy Starsmore-Young worked tirelessly to break play down, with a third goal coming from a straight strike from Jess Austin from a penalty corner took a slight deflection from a Tamworth stick to fly into the goal. From here on the goals seemed to keep coming! Linzi Webster was on the end of Kettering’s 4th after a scramble in the circle. Cath Irvin showed incredible commitment to score Kettering’s 5th by diving at the ball to slot it past the keeper on the left post, and Harriet Goswell completed the goal scoring by getting the ball past the keeper from the right post. Emma Findlay came close right in the last minutes as she tried to get the ball round the keeper. All in all a nice game and certainly a pleasurable way to compete the penultimate game of the season by bagging a few more goals.
