Kettering are still searching for that ellusive goal

In desperate need of points, Kettering Ladies XI faces top of the league Solihull this weekend. This is always a good contest between the two sides and the hope was for another good performance and perhaps a few points too! Alas it was not meant to be!

The match was fairly even to start with as Kettering managed to keep the Solihull attacks at bay with player of the match Laura Beacon and fellow centre back Beth Winfield both making important tackles and showing composure under pressure. Solihull won a penalty corner after 25 minutes and managed to convert this in to a goal as the ball scrambled around the circle before being slotted in. A second goal came for Solihull from another penalty corner where the ball once again was topped and bobbled around, moving Nik Baker out of position for it to be tapped in.

Being 2-0 down at half time Kettering knew they needed to up their game and as the match restarted Solihull pushed and Kettering held. Some of Solihull’s 1 touch passing caught out the midfield allowing balls to find their way to the forwards and if not for a goal line clearance from Beacon, Kettering may have found themselves further behind.

Perseverance endured and Kettering soon earned a penalty corner from their pressure forwards. As the ball was played in it hit a foot on the line resulting in a penalty stroke. Charlie Fowle stepped up to take the flick but was unfortunately denied by the agile keeper low at the left post.

Kettering managed to gain a few more corners as the game continued but, as previous, a goal was not so fortuitous.

Kettering remain at the bottom of the league with the number of games running out for them to save them from relegation. Another frustrating game where the performance once again did not reflect the result.

The ladies take on Telford and Wrekin at home on Sunday 1pm - fingers crossed the ever eluding goals can find their way back to the Kettering side.
