Kettering Ladies 2nds team played fellow league team Towcester 2nds in a pre-season friendly at Bishop Stopford School. Kettering started well but were caught at the back and despite playing well suddenly found themselves a goal down. They settled again but Towcester held firm and managed to double their lead. Kettering stepped up a gear and after a fine run by Georgie Jones down the right and a pass to Meghan Griggs, Griggs effort at goal was deflected into the air and Kirsty Smith was on hand to volley in at head height from close range. 2-1 at half time. The second half saw Kettering attack with pace down the right with Jones and Griggs putting in fine displays on their debut. Mandy-Starsmore-Young joined Shez Coe and Natalie Irons in centre midfield and Kettering were able to dominate play much more and this resulted in a number of short corners being won. It was from one of these short corners that Starsmore-Young injected the ball for Jill Livingstone to hit a crisp strike direct into the Towcester goal to make it 2-2. Smith then gave Kettering the lead with her second of the game and Kettering looked like they were going to win the game. However Towcester were far from over and after some sustained pressure got a well-deserved equaliser. The game finished 3-3 after a good pre-season work out for both sides. Kettering face Saints 2nds in their final pre-season game next week.
