Kettering 0-4 Widcatz
By Barry Coe
Young Kettering side push experienced Wildcatz team all the way.
The weather was again in our favour as the last game of the season was upon us. We gained another new/old face back for this game in Isobel Ringrose, who played fantastically in the middle. The game was tough from the start with the away team making inroads at the slightest hint of an opportunity, there were many many good saves by captain Kate Metcalfe in the first 20mins of the game. The back line of Liz Metcalfe, Julia Telford, Claire Jones and stalwart Janny Randle made some excellent clearances and were under sustained pressure, there were some great balls out to the wings of Megan Newlyn and Georgie Jones. The short sharp passing made easy work getting the ball to the waiting forwards of interchanging Immi Mitchell , Natalia Bednarczyk and Lucy Mills. Deep into the half there were several short corners awarded to the away team, this saw their first goal come, with it nicked into the left hand post. Another short corner and another goal within 5mins made the score line at 2-0 to the visiting team at half time.
Players all gave their all and made the away team wait for their third goal, off a short corner, just nipping passed Jones at the near post. The away team were all about scoring as many goals as possible, but again the midfield were coming back to help mark, what felt like too many, eagerly waiting forwards. After some more end to end play the way team gained another short, and with a peach of a shot another goal for the away team, crossing the face of the goal and crashed into the backboard. Final score 4-0 to the visiting team.
What a season for this ever changing team of fantastic players, we can definitely say that we have some fantastic youthful players who will be fighting for places in the higher teams next year. Well done to ALL the 43 players that have pulled on a Kettering Jersey for the Ladies 3rd team this year. We didn’t get the score lines we wanted or deserved at times, but we have moved on leaps and bounds with out a doubt.
Thanks to one and all for making this team a great and fun place to be, let’s see what the 2019-2020 season holds in store for this amazing bunch of humans!
